Course Description:

This Fiber To The Home Technician course is a comprehensive program to introduce the fiber optics technician to FTTx
architectures being utilized, advantages and disadvantages of each and types of components necessary to complete a FTTx
fiber segment. Upon completion of this course, the student will be familiar with why FTTx is being implemented today,
including technical, marketing, and financial justifications.  The student will further be familiar with the technical details
and attributes of specialized FTTx components such as: splitters/couplers and wavelength-division multiplexers and the
requirements for cables, connectors, splices, and associated hardware.  FTTx design and installation requirements will be
discussed in detail.  The student will be able to successfully install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain FTTx links as a result of
real world, hands-on training sessions. Course fee includes all study materials and Course CD.

Course Objective:

Program prepares the student to take the Certified Fiber to the Home Technician (CFxT) exam given and graded at the end of
class. Student will be able to effectively and efficiently install, terminate, and test singlemode FTTx fiber optic networks.

Prerequisites:  For Fiber Optics Technicians: CFOT certification from the Fiber Optics Association (FOA).  This industry recognized certification
demonstrates a thorough understanding of basic fiber optics components, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fiber optic
networks (Inside and Outside Plant).  If the student is not a registered CFOT with the FOA, the 100-question exam is available to "test out" of the
basic, CFOT Course requirement.  The fee for this exam is $145.00.  Exam is given and graded during the CFxT class.  For other students not
expecting to be involved in actual installation work: None

Comment: If you have attended other Basic Fiber Optics Technician Courses and feel you can be successful in passing the FOA CFOT exam (70%
correct), test yourself by answering the 10 Basic Fiber Technician Questions
HERE.  If you can not answer these basic questions correctly, we look
forward to seeing you in our CFOT class.
