" A pocket knife and side cutters are not the correct fiber optic strippers for
removing the jacket, buffer or buffer tube during fiber cable installation.  I once
saw a gent with a razor blade trying to remove a cable jacket one time.  I wonder
where he got his training?"
Grey Buffer Tube Splitter (For Fiber Tubes and Small O.D. Distribution Fiber)
These Buffer Tube Strippers made by IDEAL with adjustable blades can be set for any depth to help assure nick-free jacket entry from
simplex fiber to specifications on a variety of fiber optic cable up to 1/8 inch diameter. Loose tube fiber demands a precision tool capable
of cutting different buffer tube diameters without nicking the enclosed fiber. Take the spare blades off and keep one on the unit. Store
them where you can find them later - like in a plastic soap dish along with your Strain Relief repair tools - a razor blade and super glue.

Miller Cable Splitter w/Rotatable Blade
"This thing is way too cool for the non-fiber guys.  But this jacket slitter works
great on both copper and fiber cable.  Actually it probably works better on
fiber cable."

Miller Strippers
Be advised!  Our last batch of "New", Single-Hole, Miller Strippers have failed miserably.  Some units would strip
once in a while others would only strip the fiber on Mondays or Tuesdays.  Most of the time the units functioned
very well as fiber "cutters" but would not actually strip the buffer.  I (
Bob Ballard) looked at the units under a
microscope and found that almost all of them had very pronounced "tips" at the transition to the entrance to the
strip area on the head that would assist in the cleaving thus cutting of the fiber.  Two years ago, we purchased 24
used Single-Hole Miller strippers on Ebay to use in our
Fiber Optics Training Classes.   These units have worked
flawlessly.  When viewed under a microscope this same transition area on these units is smooth with no tip thus
the buffer is stripped and the sharp tip does not cleave and break the fiber like the new ones.

Miller's response to our problem is as follows:
1.  The customer has miss adjusted the units thus causing them to fail.
2.  We found adhesive in the stripping heads.
3.  The customer should learn the proper method of use of the stripper.
