About BDI Ellijay

Ellijay is the seat of Gilmer County, tucked into the north Georgia mountains roughly 75 miles north of Atlanta near the Chattahoochee National Forest. This corner of the state is in the middle of a rural fiber buildout. Ellijay Telephone Company, a local fiber internet provider headquartered in town, has used a USDA ReConnect grant to support about 90 miles of fiber-optic infrastructure across Gilmer County, serving more than 2,000 households, businesses, and farms, with further ARPA-funded expansion underway in Ellijay, Whitestone, and Cherry Log. Georgia received over $1.3 billion in federal BEAD broadband funding, fueling years of rural fiber construction statewide. That work needs certified technicians, and the national mean wage for telecommunications line installers and repairers runs about $33 an hour.

BDI DataLynk brings its FOA fiber optic certification training to the Ellijay area as a city-class venue. BDI delivers classes at professional training facilities across the country, providing the instructor, the curriculum, and all training equipment so students can earn their certifications close to home.
