Why Fiber Optics. Why Houston. Why Now.

Texas is not just part of the national fiber push, it is leading it. The state landed the single largest federal BEAD broadband allocation in the country at $3.31 billion, ahead of California and Missouri. In December 2025 the federal government approved Texas’s plan to connect more than 240,000 unserved locations, and Houston sits at the center of the buildout.
The private investment is already in the ground here. AT&T has put nearly $2.2 billion into fiber across the Houston metro from 2020 to 2024, including more than $1.5 billion in Harris County alone. Comcast invested another $265 million in 2024 to build over 1,000 miles of new fiber reaching more than 100,000 homes and businesses across southeast Texas. Crown Castle and Quanta Services, two of the largest infrastructure firms in the country, are both headquartered right here in Houston. All of that fiber needs people to splice, install, and maintain it. Houston-area fiber technicians earn roughly $21 to $36 an hour, with AT&T, Comcast, Crown Castle, Quanta Services, MasTec, and Frontier all hiring across the metro. Nationally, the Fiber Broadband Association estimates the industry needs up to 205,000 additional technicians over five years, and the Gulf Coast buildout has to fill its share of that gap.
