Open fiber optic technician jobs in Florida
Florida homes and businesses Lumos plans to pass with new fiber across 30+ communities
Florida’s fiber job market is active right now. Job boards list hundreds of open fiber optic technician roles across the state, with Indeed reporting an average of about $24.81 an hour for fiber technicians in Florida and ZipRecruiter putting the average Florida posting around $20.77 an hour, with most roles in a roughly $16 to $24 hourly band. Experienced and specialized techs reach higher: Frontier fiber technician pay in the Tampa area averages around $33 an hour. Employers are hiring directly today. AT&T lists fiber optic technician openings across Florida, Frontier Communications is hiring field and fiber technicians in the Tampa market, Fort Lauderdale-based Hotwire Communications has service and fiber technician roles in Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami, and Summit Broadband is hiring field service technicians and fiber splicers in Orlando.
The work is being driven by a wave of named Florida buildouts. Lumos announced its entry into Florida in February 2025 with a nearly 7,500-mile network planned to reach almost 500,000 homes and businesses across more than 30 communities. Tillman Fiber is investing across the state, including a $100 million open-access network in Miami-Dade County with construction starting in June 2025, plus further investments announced in Collier County ($40 million) and Hernando County ($60 million). Those crews need certified technicians to splice, install, and test the fiber they are putting in the ground.
