Course Description:

Looking to jumpstart your career? Take our Fiber Optics Bootcamp!

This program is an intensive, accelerated version of our traditional Fiber Optic training program, equipping you with 3 Fiber Optic Association sanctioned Certifications.  No prior experience necessary. This boot camp includes our foundational three certified fiber optic courses–Certified Fiber Optics Technician, Certified Fiber Optics Specialist/Splicing, and Certified Fiber Optics Specialist/Testing & Maintenance. Cost includes study materials, exam fees and textbooks for all three courses.

BDI FiberOptiX Technician – CFOT

This comprehensive introductory course in fiber optics is designed for those aspiring to become Certified Fiber Optic Technicians. The training integrates theoretical knowledge with 50% hands-on activities – students are able to use and practice with field equipment in class through hands on skills labs. Participants will also be introduced to industry standards for FTTD (Fiber To The Desk), FTTH (Fiber To The Home), and Distribution Cabling. The course covers fiber type identification, connector recognition, installation, termination, splicing, and proper testing of installed fiber cables in accordance with current standards. Our goal is to equip students to pass the Fiber Optics Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) exam, which is administered and graded on the final day.

This program covers not only basic testing and troubleshooting, but also explores the history and future of fiber optics and fiber optics capabilities. Anyone interested in becoming a Certified Fiber Optics Technician should attend this class.

BDI FiberOptiX Testing & Maintenance Specialist – CFOS/T

This intensive program offers advanced training for individuals involved in testing and maintaining fiber optic networks. Emphasizing practical experience with minimal theory, the course provides a clear and accessible approach to fiber optics testing standards. Participants will learn about various testing standards, equipment, and technological methods used in fiber network testing and splicing, along with guidance on selecting the appropriate tools. The program, which is 50% hands-on, covers the full spectrum of testing and maintaining single mode fiber optics networks. It includes detailed demonstrations of the equipment used in these processes. Topics include ANSI/TIA/EIA-526-(7)A standards, OTDR fundamentals and applications, a comparison of OTDR and Insertion Loss Testing, Return Loss Testing, and Attenuation testing using Power Source and Light Meter.

BDI FiberOptiX Splicing Specialist – CFOS/S

This Splicing Specialist Training provides in-depth information about splicing, including an overview of OTDR functions and trace interpretation. The course emphasizes hands-on learning, covering key points to achieve high-performance splicing. Students will train in both fusion and mechanical splicing of single or multimode fiber optic cables. During these sessions, the instructor will demonstrate the use of various types of inside or outside plant fiber optic cables, as well as fiber optics enclosures and splice trays.

The student must pass both the written and hands on exams to successfully pass this course. Course fee includes all books study materials, exams and 3-year membership to the FOA.
